Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for Dec. 11-17 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers. 

Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Canby wrestling

The Cougars clawed their way to the championship at the Larry Owings Invitational at Canby High School. Canby took the top spot at the 16-team event with 396.5 points. Sherwood was second with 236.5. The Cougars boasted five individual champions in Jacob Young (113 pounds), Nico Yazzolino (138), Matthew Young (144), James Keinonen (175) and Jackson Doman (190).

Corbett girls basketball

The Cardinals went 3-0 at the Seaside Holiday Classic to stay perfect this season. Corbett opened the event with a 65-51 win over Madras. The Cardinals then topped Seaside 43-33 before finishing with a 65-41 victory against The Dalles. With the three wins, Corbett improved its season record to 8-0.

Dallas wrestling

The Dragons battled their way to the championship at the Hilhi Invitational at Hillsboro High School. Dallas took first place at the two-day, 13-team event with 868 points. Hillsboro finished second with 580. The Dragons crowned three individual champions in Jose Romero (138 pounds), Andrew Craven (144) and Cole Langford.

Jefferson boys basketball

The Democrats claimed the championship at the Lakeridge Tournament at Lakeridge High School. Jefferson opened the eight-team event with a 71-66 win over Westview. The Democrats then bested David Douglas 88-78 and capped things with a 66-53 win over Putnam in the title contest. Jefferson improved to 5-1 with the three wins.

The Democrats sprinted to a 70-44 win over Barlow in a nonleague game at Barlow High School to improve to 4-0. Junior Chanucey Andersen led the way for Jefferson with 24 points. Junior Abrianna Lawrence added 19 points.

Klamath Union girls basketball

The Pelicans moved to 4-0 in dramatic fashion, outscoring Eagle Point 30-13 in the fourth quarter to get a 54-53 win over the Eagles in a nonleague game at Eagle Point High School. Senior Keely Hall scored 17 of her game-high 24 points in the final period to lead the comeback.

La Grande girls wrestling

The Tigers triumphed by the slimmest of margins at the Oregon Trail County Championships at Echo High School. La Grande claimed the top spot in the team standings at the 11-school event with 156 points. Hermiston was second with 155. La Grande had five individual champions in Rhiley Lees (105 pounds), Florecita Villagomez (115), Maleigha Azure (130), Paige Allen (135) and Aliya Lenox (170).

The Tigers, with 176 team points, edged Irrigon to claim the championship at the Oregon Trail County Championships at Echo High School. Irrigon had a score of 160 to place second in the 12-team tournament. La Grande had three individual champions in Darren Gulzow (106 pounds), Kallen Blakely (113) and Dex Dunlap (215).

Lakeridge girls swimming

The Pacers swam to a 112-56 win over Tualatin in a meet held at the Lake Oswego District Pool, improving the team’s Three Rivers League dual meet record to 2-0. Sophomore Helena Huettemeyer led the way for the Pacers, winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 backstroke in addition to swimming on a couple of victorious relay teams.

Philomath girls basketball

The Warriors went 3-0 at the Les Schwab South Coast Tournament at Marshfield High School. Philomath opened the event with a 40-24 win over Crook County. The Warriors then bested Marshfield 44-39 before wrapping things up with a 44-39 victory against Bandon. With the three wins, Philomath improved to 5-1.

Pleasant Hill boys basketball

The Billies edged Douglas 67-65 in the championship game of the Battle of I-5 tournament at Creswell High School. Sophomore guard Landen Melvin led the way for Pleasant Hill in the title-game victory with 25 points. Junior Gavin Inglish added 21 for the Billies, who moved to 7-1.

Marshfield wrestling

The Pirates battled their way to the championship at the Coquille Holiday Tournament at Coquille High School. Marshfield claimed the top spot at the 12-team event with 287.5 points. The host squad from Coquille was second with 175. The Pirates boasted four individual champions in Garron Castro (106 pounds), Christian Woodram (113), Trayton Forbes (126) and Aryan Wright (175).

McKay girls wrestling

The Royal Scots successfully defended their home mats, winning the championship at the Battle for the Capital tournament at McKay High School. The host team took first place at the seven-team event with 287.5 points. McNary was second with 175. The Royal Scots had four individual champions in Sharyln Gonzalez (100 pounds), Sarahi Chavez (105), Marilyn Mentado (125) and Stephanie Valdovino (140).

The Celtics, with 222 points, triumphed at the Larry Owings Invitational at Canby High School. Mountain View finished in second place at the 16-team event with 171. McNary had four individual champions in Jessica Cottings (100 pounds), Marlina Martinez (110), McKenna Unger (135) and Ali Martinez (190).

St. Helens wrestling

The Lions grappled their way to the championship at the Molalla Holiday Mayhem Invitational at Molalla High School. St. Helens placed first in the nine-team event with 198.5 points. Estacada was a close second with 195. The Lions crowned four individual champions in Mikey Cobabe (113 pounds), Carson Jackson (120), Evan Willis (132) and Everett Moore (285).

Roseburg boys swimming

Roseburg had first-place finishes in all 11 events on its way to posting a 158-46 win over North Medford in a Southwest Conference dual meet at the YMCA of Douglas County. Jonathan Hlanivka won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly, and Brayden Powell triumphed in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle to help lead Roseburg to the team victory.

Sheldon swimming

The Irish boys and girls teams had first-place finishes at the 29th annual North Bend Invitational at the North Bend Municipal Pool. On the boys side, Sheldon took the top spot at the eight-team meet with 441 points. Roseburg was second with 422. For the girls, the Irish topped the field with 447 points. Grants Pass was the runner up with 368.5.

Southridge boys basketball

The Skyhawks shot an astounding 20 of 32 from 3-point range on their way to running to a 116-65 win over South Eugene in a nonleague game at Southridge High School. Freshman guard Elijah Thompson made all four of his 3-point attempts and scored a team-high 24 points. Sophomore Drew Groenig made six 3-pointers and scored 23 points. Southridge improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Sutherlin girls basketball

The Bulldogs triumphed at the Queens of the Court tournament at Westside Christian High School, topping the host Eagles 52-40 in the championship contest. Junior forward Addyson Clark led the way for Sutherlin in the title contest with 22 points and six rebounds.

Sweet Home wrestling

The Huskies put on a dominant performance as they went 4-0 at the Sweet Home Duals tournament at Sweet Home High School. The Huskies opened the competition by shutting out Newport 82-0. They then defeated Elmira 81-0. Sweet Home followed by besting Cascade 66-10 before finishing with a 78-0 victory against Stayton.

Vale girls basketball

The Vikings posted a 44-20 win over La Grande in a nonleague game at Vale High School to stay unbeaten, moving to 8-0. Senior Hailey Cleaver led a balanced Vale scoring attack with 12 points. Sophomore Kelsey Stepleton added 10 points.

Valley Catholic boys basketball

The Valiants topped Riverdale 73-45, they bested Seaside 63-52, and they notched a 73-55 win over Neah-Kah-Nie to improve to 6-0. Junior guard Zach Pippin had 23 points, five rebounds and four assists in the victory at Seaside.
