Bishop McDevitt, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, North Allegheny pick up big wins: Pennsylvania high school football roundup (9/29/2023)

There were plenty of good matchups in high school football around the state of Pennsylvania on Friday night, highlighted by an SBLive Pennsylvania Power 25 matchup, as No. 13 North Allegheny defeated No. 17 Pine-Richland.

Here are five other games of note from around PA on Friday night:

No. 3 Bishop McDevitt 55, Milton Hershey 14 

Stone Saunders and Rico Scott put on yet another show for the Crusaders, as the No. 3 team in the SBLive Pennsylvania Power 25 just keeps rolling along.

Saunders, the University of Kentucky commit at quarterback, threw for 184 yards and four touchdowns and Scott, the University of Alabama commit at wide receiver, pulled down six passes for 64 yards and a score and also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

The Crusaders led 20-0 after the first quarter on the strength of three touchdown passes by Saunders.

Nazir Jones-Davis led the Crusaders' rushing attack with 93 yards and a score.

The starters for Bishop McDevitt played just a little more than two quarters in the game. 

No. 4 Pittsburgh Central Catholic 49, Canon-McMillan 6

Pittsburgh Central Catholic scored 49 straight points after trailing 6-0 to win and remain undefeated.

Quarterback Payton Wehner and wide receiver Peter Gonzalez connected for three touchdowns - 59 yards, 46 yards and 82 yards - and Wehner also had a 44-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Sassic. 

Elijah Faulkner had a 52-yard rushing touchdown for the Vikings. 

No. 13 North Allegheny 45, No. 17 Pine-Richland 10 

North Allegheny jumped out to a 28-0 lead and never looked back in defeatin the Rams.

Quarterback Logan Kushner threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for two others as North Allegheny rebounded from a loss to Pittsburgh Central Catholic last week.

Kushner hit Khiryn Boyd with a 65-yard touchdown pass to start the scoring and then found Tyree Alualu in the second quarter with a 6-yard touchdown pass. He ran one in from one yard out earlier int he second and then broke off for a 54-yard run to make it 42-7 early in the third quarter.

Boyd and AluAlu each scored twice as well for the Tigers.

No. 16 Nazareth 14, Allentown Central Catholic 7

Quarterback Peyton Falzone hit Caleb Newsome for a 13-yard touchdown with 2:44 to play to give Nazareth a 14-7 lead and the eventual win. 

On the same possession, Falzone converted on a fourth-and-1 with a 40-yard run that set up the game-winning score.

Falzone threw for 169 yards and the score, while Newsome hauled in four catches for 86 yards and the game-winner. 

The game-winning drive was set up by the Nazareth defense, which mad a stop on fourth down at the 20-yard-line with Central Catholic threatening to take the lead.

West Perry 72, Boiling Springs 28 

West Perry set a record for points scored in school history in the win.

Quarterback Marcus Quaker accounted for 284 yards of offense and four touchdowns, as he threw for 164 yards and added 120 yards rushing. He, and the other starters, sat the second half after the Mustangs led 56-0 after two quarters.

Wide receiver Ian Goodling hauled in four passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns, Evan Jutba had 98 yards rushing and a score, Caleb Gutshall ran for 30 yards and a pair of scores and  Adam Yoder and Jenson Hockenberry-Folk each added a touchdown.
