William Spencer commits to Louisville; New Albany (Indiana) 4-star chooses Cardinals over Kentucky, Michigan State, others

The defensive lineman originally from Louisville Male (Kentucky) announced his commitment to the Cardinals on National Signing Day

William Spencer is going back home to the Bluegrass State.

Spencer, a four-star recruit from New Albany (Indiana), held college offers from several Power Five programs across the country, but in the end it came down to a battle between Louisville and Kentucky for the talented lineman.

Spencer originally made a name for himself at Male (Kentucky) before transferring to New Albany for his senior year, and now he'll be returning to his hometown to play college football. The big-time prospect announced his commitment to the University of Louisville on National Signing Day at Aspirations Fitness Institution, the gym where he trains.

"It means a lot to stay home," Spencer told 247Sports in a live commitment ceremony on YouTube.

Spencer received an in-home visit from new Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm and took an official visit to the school over the weekend leading up to signing day, which proved to be vital in keeping the big man close to home.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound senior is the No. 4 player in Indiana and No. 44 defensive lineman in the country, according to 247Sports.
