Danny Okoye, nation's No. 6 defensive end, announcing commitment Wednesday; Is Oklahoma the favorite?

Four-star defensive end/edge-rusher Danny Okoye will announce his college commitment at 6:30 p.m. CT

UPDATE >>>> Danny Okoye commits to Oklahoma Sooners (story)

One of the nation's top edge-rushers is set to come off the board.

On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CT, Noah Homeschool (Oklahoma) four-star defender Danny Okoye, the nation's No. 6 defensive end, is set to announce his college between Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound edge previously had a top six, but admitted that a recent visit to Norman dramatically altered his recruitment.

"I'm not gonna lie when I went on the OU visit, I had a top six," Okoye told SBLive Sports. "After that trip I was ready to name a top three."

Not only that, but Okoye ended up canceling two visits and setting an imminent commitment date.

What stood out on his trip?

A few things, including the vibe around head coach Brent Venables.

"It was definitely different," Okoye said. "I've never been to Oklahoma on a gameday with (Brent) Venables there. Being in that environment with the energy that he brings, it was definitely a change of pace."

The other standout moment was a bit more personal, as Okoye chatted with former Oklahoma linebacker Caleb Kelly, who specializes in career and professional development after a series of injuries during his playing days as a Sooner.

"I had a great conversation with Caleb Kelly," Okoye said."What happened with him, he was going to go to the NFL, got injured, but he was still able to accomplish his goals in life because the program cared enough about the person, not just the player. Getting to see that aspect of the program was eye-opening."

Admittedly, Tennessee is also in the mix and remains a team to watch, as the Vols have been recruiting Okoye the longest of any of his finalists.

But the sudden pivot from "taking visits" to "ready to commit" following his trip to Oklahoma earlier this month would seem to indicate Okoye is ready to become a Sooner.

We'll all find out before the day is over.
