Prediction: Oklahoma Sooners poised to land bluechip safety

Michigan State's loss could be Oklahoma's gain

There has been a mass exodus of the Michigan State Spartans recruiting class in the wake of the Mel Tucker scandal.

Hoping to find new homes, six former Spartans pledges have reopened their recruitments this cycle, including four of the five bluechip prospects.

One of the most interesting names on that list is unquestionably Centerville (Ohio) four-star defensive back Reggie Powers III, the nation's No. 11 safety.

Prediction: Reggie Powers III to Oklahoma Sooners

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back, who has racked up more than 30 scholarship offers, decommitted from Michigan State less than a week after receiving his latest offer from the Oklahoma Sooners.

“Thank you MSU Staff and Fans for all the love and support,” Powers posted to social media. “After much consideration with my family I have decided to re-open my recruitment. I appreciate you all. Go Green!”

Of course, the timing was noteworthy given its closeness to his new, admittedly-intriguing offer from Oklahoma.

Over the weekend, Powers took his first-ever visit to Norman and it sounds as though the trip may have been a game-changer.

The recruiting industry agrees.

On3 gives Powers a 74.7 percent chance of choosing the Sooners, while 247Sports has had four new predictions in favor of Oklahoma.

Powers was high on the Sooners even before his visit - with all signs pointing to a future in Norman.

Following his visit, that now seems like a near certainty.
