Carlon Jones commits to USC; Nation's top uncommitted defensive lineman chooses Trojans

USC lands Bay City (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Carlon Jones

Entering the week of the early signing period not many bluechip recruits remained available in the class of 2024.

But one was Bay City (Texas) four-star defensive lineman Carlon Jones, who had a top four of Alabama, Ohio State, TCU and USC.

On Monday, he changed that, committing to the USC Trojans:

"(I chose) USC because coach (Shaun) Nua was sincere with me about everything," Jones said. "Coach (Lincoln) Riley and (D'Anton) Lynn let me know they needed more size to compete in the Big 10. I will get a chance to hit the field early also. (There's) a lot of networking capabilities for life after football and the weather is second to none."

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect, rated the nation's No. 194 overall prospect and No. 17 defensive lineman. was the top-rated uncommitted defensive lineman in the country.

Jones, a former Nebraska pledge, visited USC over the weekend and was blown away by the experience, setting the stage for his decision. 

"It was very good," he told SBLive Sports. "The staff is very organized and they let me know how much they need me and how I could help the team." 

USC's 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 18 nationally and boasts four top-100 prospect nationally, according to 247Sports.
