Vote: Who should be SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week (2/26/2024)?

We have 10 athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week from Feb. 18-24 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Sunday, March 3 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Abijah Franklin, Wren, Boys Basketball

The 6-foot-4 junior forward/guard had a dominant game with 33 points and 13 rebounds as the Hurricanes swamped Blue Ridge 71-47 in the Upper State AAA semifinals. Franklin, the AAA state player of the year, is averaging 24.2 points and 7.1 rebounds.

R.J. Simmons, James Island, Boys Basketball

Simmons hit a layup at the buzzer to force overtime and then hit a 3-pointer as well as a pair of free throws in overtime as the Trojans rallied from 19 points down to stun Westwood 75-72 in the AAAA Lower State semifinals.

Dream Watson, Military Magnet, Girls Basketball

Watson posted 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals as the three-time defending 1-A state champion Eagles whipped Allendale-Fairfax 54-29 in the Lower State semifinals.

Joyce Edwards, Camden, Girls Basketball

The South Carolina signee produced another powerful game with 23 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots as the Bulldogs downed Lower Richland 47-28 in the AAA Lower State semifinals.

Keenan Dubose, Darlington, Boys Basketball

Dubose led the way with 28 points in Darlington’s 52-47 win over North Charleston in the AAA Lower State semifinals.

Simone Johnson, Ridge View, Girls Basketball

Johnson scored 27 points as the Blazers edged Bluffton 50-49 in the AAAA Lower State semifinals. The 5-foot-10 sophomore also had six rebounds.

Andre McFadden-Pressley, Lake City, Boys Wrestling

McFadden-Pressley won the AAA state championship at 285 pounds. He took a 1-0 victory in the championship contest.

Kennedi Washington, Greenwood, Girls Wrestling

Washington beat South Florence’s Niyah Brunson 3-1 to win the 190-pound state championship.

Edwin Barrios, Socastee, Boys Wrestling

Barrios, a senior, won the AAAAA 157-pound state championship. Barrios won the championship match via a 12-3 major decision.

Brayden Robinson, South Florence, Baseball

Robinson fired a five-inning no-hitter with nine strikeouts as the Bruins overwhelmed McBee 11-0.
