PSJA North, ranked No. 11 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, is now 18-1 on the season

PHARR, Texas - PSJA North, ranked No. 11 by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, continued its season-long dominance with a 16-1 rout of La Joya Juarez-Lincoln on Wednesday.

PSJA North improved to 5-0 in District 31-6A and 18-1 overall.

“I am proud of the girls, they stayed within themselves, and they did what they needed to do to get the job done and that is all I can ask for,” PSJA North head coach Stephanie Lugo said.

“We are 5-0 and at the top now, so hopefully we can continue that throughout the season,” Lugo said. “We just have to get ready for (Thursday) when we take on Edinburg Economedes at 1 p.m.”

The Lady Raiders banged out 13 hits, including three inside the park home runs by Madison Herrera, Aliyah Perez and Ariella Saenz.

“All the girls did their job and that is all I can ask for as a coach,” Lugo said. “They stayed within themselves and kept their heads level. They are such a great group of girls - no matter where we put them, they do their job.”

A total of 10 players recorded at least one hit, led by Haley Martinez who was 2-for-2. Kristinna Luera and Ariella Saenz both went 2-for-3.

The Lady Raiders also stole seven bases, with Alexa Garza and Luera each swiping two bases. Mia Avendano, Victoria Espinoza, Jenna Fabela, Haley Martinez and Eileen Reyna all stole one base.

Eryn Reyna pitched two innings for PSJA North and Saenz pitched the third inning.

PSJA North sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring sevens runs. Fabela got the rally started with a one-out single, then PSJA North tacked on three more hits to produce seven runs.

PSJA North tacked on three more runs in the second inning after a solid inning of work in the circle by Reyna. The Lady Raiders also hit their first inside the park home run by Perez.

The offense kept flowing for PSJA North as the Lady Raiders were able to secure the 15 runs, including a pair of inside the park home runs in the third inning, to run-rule La Joya Juarez-Lincoln.
