Five-star Duncanville PF Ron Holland commits to Texas Longhorns

Holland, the top-rated Class of 2023 recruit in Texas high school basketball, announced his pledge to play for the Longhorns on Saturday morning

Duncanville senior Ron Holland revealed he'll begin the next chapter of his basketball career.

Holland, a five-star power forward, announced his pledge to play for the Texas Longhorns in a Twitter post on Saturday morning announcing his college commitment.

Holland confirmed his commitment to ESPN on Saturday, emphasizing his desire to play college ball close to home.

"I have grown up in Texas and I want to be loyal to my home state," he told ESPN. "I can accomplish all my goals at home."

Holland, who has received offers from more than a dozen Division I programs, previously trimmed his list of prospective college destinations down to a top three of Texas, Arkansas and UCLA in late October.

The 6-foot-8 power forward is regarded as a consensus five-star prospect, and has been tabbed the No. 1 overall Class of 2023 recruit in Texas high school basketball by 247 Sports and ESPN.

He's ranked as the No. 3 power forward and No. 10 recruit overall in the 247 Sports composite recruiting rankings for the Class of 2023.

Holland has shined as a three-year varsity starter for Duncanville, helping propel the Panthers to three straight trips to the UIL Class 6A Boys Basketball State Tournament.

In 87 career games at Duncanville, he has averaged 11.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 59.0% shooting.

Holland led the Panthers to a 35-1 finish last year as a junior, when he led Duncanville with a team-high 15.9 points per contest in addition to 7.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.0 steals on a 57.8% shooting clip.
