FEDERAL WAY - Five-and-a-half months ago, south King County boys basketball rivals Auburn and Federal Way met for the overall NPSL title on a Saturday morning with no fans during a record-setting summer heat wave.

The Trojans survived, 55-53, that day.

And the early-winter rematch in front a full gymnasium Tuesday night?

It was a much different outcome.

Senior guard Kaden Hansen scored a game-high 26 points, and the Trojans used a 20-0 run to erase an early deficit, and post a 70-56 league crossover victory over the host Eagles.

Tre Blassingame added 14 points, and Maleek Arington added 10. Isaiah Afework led Federal Way with 15 points.

"They love to play in an environment like that," Auburn boys coach Ryan Hansen said. "They thrive in that situation, and knew this was going to be a crowd that was loud and into it."

At one point early, the Eagles were up 8-3 - and held a 10-7 lead when they were completely shut down, going without a field goal for a span of 7:07 in the first half.

Fueled by three 3-pointers, including a pair from Kaden Hansen, Auburn scored 20 unanswered points - and led 27-10 at the 5:45 mark of the second quarter.

The Trojans' lead grew as big as 26 points.

"(On-ball pressure) has been an emphasis of ours," Ryan Hansen said. "We want to kind of play a little bit faster than we did last year."

With both rosters largely the same from last summer's showdown, Eagles coach Yattah Reed said he saw a more confident Auburn team that fed off "energy baskets."

"We did not start off how I expected," Reed said. "Credit Auburn. I thought they played with more intensity."
