TACOMA - The wild-west 4A SPSL boys basketball season is in full motion in the first couple of weeks of 2021-22.

Two nights after losing at Olympia, Sumner took a 57-53 road victory over Bellarmine Prep to snap a two-game skid.

Kaden Lewis led all scorers with 22 points. Ty Edwards added 16, and his shot clock buzzer-beating jumper with 3:25 ended a Lions' surge to push the lead back to 48-41 with 3:25 to go.

And after Lewis missed a free throw, Edwards got the rebound and laid it in to extend it to 52-44 with 1:35 remaining.

Tommy Hanly converted a four-point play with four seconds remaining to cut it to 56-53, but Edwards made one of two free throws on the other end to ice the outcome.

This win gave Sumner coach Jake Jackson and his staff a huge sense of relief.

"The 4A SPSL ... if I had to define its identity, it is physical, high-IQ basketball," Jackson said. "You have to be one step ahead, be proactive and adapt.

"In this league, every possession matters."

Nic Ferencko led the Lions with 19 points. Luke Shillito added 14 points, and Hanly finished with 10.
