Watch: Toppenish snaps Zillah boys basketball's 122-game league win streak
TOPPENISH, Wash. — In the end, it became when not if.
Sixth-ranked Toppenish emphatically ended No. 3 Zillah’s 122-game SCAC winning streak 72-44 on Friday night. The Wildcats scored the game’s first seven points and never looked back.
The victory avenges a 78-72 overtime loss late last month in a game in which the Wildcats (7-1 SCAC, 15-2 overall) led by 10 at halftime.
It’s the first loss of the season for the Leopards (6-1, 13-1), who can earn a share of the SCAC regular season title with a victory at home against Wapato.
Shane Rivera scored a game-high 21 points for the Wildcats, 13 of those in the fourth quarter, while Jason Grant and Riley Mesplie added 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Grant, who was his usual force on the boards, scored all of his points in the first three quarters.
Zillah was led by Clay Delp’s 20 points. Ashton Waldman chipped in 10.
