4A boys Hardwood Classic 2022: First round updates, highlights, photos, standout performances
TACOMA, Wash. — For the first time in two years, the 3A/4A Washington high school boys state tournaments got off and running Wednesday morning with eight teams in each classification playing elimination games for a spot in the quarterfinals.
The 3A games are scheduled for the morning, 4A in the afternoon.

Final: No. 8 Gonzaga Prep 37, No. 9 Federal Way 33
Winner plays No. 2 Curtis (24-3) on Thursday at 9 p.m.
Jayden Stevens had 21 points on 9 for 9 shooting and pulled down nine boards to lead the Bullpups past Federal Way into the quarterfinals.
Vaughn Weems had 21 points on 10 of 13 shooting for the Eagles, whose season ends.

Final: No. 4 Kamiakin 77, No. 12 Central Valley 71
Winner gets: No. 3 Union (19-5) on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
Oregon State commit Tyler Bilodeau scored 28 points on 10 of 11 shooting, pulled down 10 rebounds and Kamiakin overcame a herculean effort from senior guard Dylan Darling to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kamiakin nursed a two-point lead at halftime and was determined to reverse that out of the break after being out-rebounded 15-14 despite a significant size advantage. That's when Bilodeau went to work. He scored 17 of his 28 points in the second half with a revolving door of CV bodies thrown at stopping him.
That included the 6-foot-2 Darling, who finished with a game-high 30 points and nine assists. He finished 8 of 16 shooting and 12 of 16 at the free throw line.

Final: No. 15 Graham-Kapowsin 65, No. 7 Davis 47

Winner gets: No. 1 Mount Si (23-0) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
After pulling the upset over No. 10 Glacier Peak in the regional round of the 4A state tournament, the 15th-ranked Eagles (14-9) did it again on Wednesday, rolling over No. 7 Davis 65-47 to advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals.
The Eagles used a 9-0 run to close the first half and extended that run to 14-0 in the early minutes of the third quarter to go from trailing by one to up 13. That lead stayed in double-digits for the remainder of the game.

Final: No. 11 Olympia 50, No. 6 Mariner 41
Up next: No. 5 Tahoma (15-8) on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
Andreas Engholm posted 18 points and 11 boards as Olympia pulled away to beat the traditional 4A Wesco power.
After Naser Motley bucket with just over a minute left pulled the Mauraders within three at 44-41, Bears sophomore Mason Juergens scored six points in the final minute, which included 4 of 4 free throw attempts.
It's Olympia's second consecutive win with elimination on the line. It beat No. 14 Jackson in the regional round.
