SPOKANE, Wash. — The chase for the gold ball continued Thursday at the Spokane Arena with eight WIAA state quarterfinal matches taking place for the 1B and 2B girls. classifications.

Here is a breakdown from each game in the 1B and 2B girls brackets. Stay with SBLive all week for updates

1B girls

Final: No. 5 Garfield-Palouse 40, No. 6 Mossyrock 35

Up next: Garfield-Palouse vs. No. 1 Mount Vernon Christian on Friday at 7:15 p.m., Mossyrock vs. No. 10 Naselle at 12:15 p.m.

A battle between two similarly seeded teams resulted in a tightly contested game.

Mossyrock went on a run in the third quarter to draw them within four heading into the fourth, but Garfield-Palouse was able to hang on.

Gar-Pal was led by Kenzi Pedersen who had 24 points and 12 rebounds. She seemed to be involved in every play on both sides of the court.

Mossyrock had two double-digit scoers, Caelyn Marshall with 11 points and Hailey Brooks with 10.

Final: No. 1 Mount Vernon Christian 47, No. 10 Naselle 26

Up next: Mount Vernon vs. No. 5 Garfield-Palouse on Friday at 7:15 p.m. in semifinals; Naselle vs. No. 6 Mossyrock at 12:15 p.m. in consolation.

The Hurricanes whipped up some ferocious defense, blanking the comments in the first quarter.

That set up Mount Vernon well for the rest of the game as they coasted to a victory behind stifling defense and 15 points from Ruthie Rozema.

Allie Heino grabbed 12 boards.

Naselle’s leading scorer was Peyton Dalton with eight points.

Final: No. 3 Neah Bay 59, No. 4 Wilbur-Creston-Keller 48

Up next: Neah Bay vs. No. 2 Colton on Friday at 9 p.m., W-C-K vs. Pomeroy at 2 p.m.

As the Wildcats hit peaks and valleys throughout the game, the Red Devils were consistently at their peak, scoring in double-figures every quarter.

Amber Swan facilitated the pristine offensive performance with 21 points and seven steals. She also pulled down three offensive boards. She did force the ball down the court and into tight spaces a little too often, finishing with 12 turnovers.

Allie Greene added 18 points.

For the Wildcats, Mackenzie Arden had 22 points and eight rebounds, but turned the ball over 10 times.

Final: No. 2 Colton 57, No. 8 Pomeroy 43

Up next: Colton vs. No. 3 Neah Bay on Friday at 9 p.m., Pomeroy vs. W-C-K at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats had the Pirates hanging along for most of the night, until an early outburst in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach for Pomeroy.

It felt as if Colton was ready to put away Pomeroy, but it took a little longer than the Wildcats would have preferred.

Maggie Meyer had 25 points, five assists and four steals for Colton who is no stranger to advancing deep in the 1B tournament. Kyndra Stout added 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

For Pomeroy, Keely Maves ran the show again, dropping 22 points, but on 31 shots.

2B girls

Final: No. 4 Okanogan 64, No. 6 Lake Roosevelt 49

Up next: Okanogan vs. No. 2 Warden on Friday at 3:45 p.m., Lake Roosevelt vs. No. 1 La Conner at 9 a.m.

The Bulldogs started slow, down 13-8 after the first quarter and 25-20 at half but flipped a switch in the third quarter and outscored the Raiders 29-10.

The utilized a balanced approach on the offensive side, leaning on four double-digit scorers, led by Aleena Lafferty with 15 points and Mylie Leitz-Rawson with 14.

Both teams rebounded well, but Okanogan forced the Raiders into coughing up the ball 19 times, leading to open possessions.

Audrey Hansen paced Lake Roosevelt with 15 points and five rebounds.

Final: No. 2 Warden 61, No. 1 La Conner 48

Up next: Warden vs. No. 4 Okanogan on Friday at 3:45 p.m., La Conner vs. No. 6 Lake Roosevelt at 9 a.m.

In the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup up the tournament, the lower-seeded team, in Warden advanced to the semifinals.

Lauryn Madsen went for 25 points, finding her way to the free throw line six times and making all six.

She also snatched seven boards.

If the Braves had shot better than their 50% from the free throw line, then the game would have been closer. But Warden kept the pressure on, finding gaps in the Braves defense and taking advantage of their 16 offensive rebounds.

Ellie Marble led La Conner with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Final: No. 3 Colfax 67, No. 5 Raymond 34

Up next: Colfax vs. No. 7 Liberty on Friday at 5:30 p.m., Raymond vs. No. 8 Chief Leschi at 10:30 a.m.

It helps to have the tallest girl on the court, who also happens to be very skilled. Freshman Brynn McGaughy snared 18 boards, seven of which were on the offensive end, and the Bulldogs leveraged that into many second-chance points.

McGaughy also had 27 points, going 12-of-21 from the floor.

Asher Cai added 22 points, knocking down four 3-pointers in the process.

Raymond didn’t have an answer inside and their perimeter shooting was cold, going 3-for-22 from behind the arc.

Kyra Gardner led the Seagulls with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Final: No. 7 Liberty 59, No. 8 Chief Leschi 29

Up next: Liberty vs. No. 3 Colfax on Friday at 5:30 p.m., Chief Leschi vs. No. 5 Raymond at 10:30 a.m.

Teagan Colvin flashed her potential in the Lancers’ first game, scoring 22 points, grabbing 14 boards and dishing out nine assists.

The sophomore point guard took a few minutes to get acclimated, but turned it on the rest of the game, facilitating the entire Liberty offense.

Grace Grumbly added 16 points and Ellie Denny had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors had no answer for the Lancer offense or defense as they struggled to find any space to operate.

Liberty held the Warriors to 17 points through three quarters and with a majority of the starters on the bench, they scored 12 in the fourth.

Tala Mitchell led Chief Leschi in scoring with 12 points.
