Photos: State 2B championship game in the quarterfinals? If so, Warden girls feeling on top of the world
Last summer, the two Class 2B girls basketball powerhouses played in the "official" state championship game in Mount Vernon.
Warden edged La Conner in overtime, 72-66.
The rematch in the real thing Thursday didn't quite have the same suspense.
The Cougars pulled away in the fourth quarter, and beat La Conner, 61-48, in the quarterfinals of the official WIAA state 2B tournament in Spokane.
Lauryn Madsen led the way for the Cougars - ranked No. 1 in SBLive WA's final rankings, but the 2-seed for the tournament - with 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Jaryn Madsen added 14.
Ellie Marble led the Braves with 17 points, but the 1-seeded Northwest District champions were badly outrebounded (47-31) and made just 11-of-22 free throw attempts.
