National top 25 high school wrestling rankings for every weight class (3/7/2024)
We are there.
We will reach the end of the line for the 2023-2024 High School Wrestling Season on Sunday evening in Ohio. The last two state tournaments take place this weekend with Ohio going Friday to Sunday and Pennsylvania starting on Thursday and ending on Saturday afternoon.
We are not going to get into too much about the rankings now. But there is a new No. 1 at 113-pounds, Santino Sloboda from Butler (Pennsylvania). Sloboda had a late comeback win over Norwin’s previous No. 1 Landon Sidun in the AAA Southwest Region Finals last weekend.
Sidun was No. 1 based on a win over Ayden Smith (Notre Dame-Green Pond, PA), who has a win over Paul Kenny (Christian Brothers, New Jersey). Interestingly, Kenny was upset in the New Jersey state semis last week by Mt. Olive’s Tyeler Hagensen. So, at 113, we have two new wrestlers in the top five.
Starting next week (day to be determined), we will be rolling out our final rankings, one weight at a time. In these capsules, I will breakdown the ins and outs of the weights and explain the rationale behind the rankings.
We are choosing this juncture for final rankings because once we get into the national postseason tournaments, wrestlers from the same teams can be at the same weights, which muddies the rankings. Additionally, we have focused so much on the high school season, it makes sense to call them final when the season ends.
Like last year, we will follow everything throughout the spring and summer and update after all the major events. But once we get into the Olympic Styles, not everyone competes, so again, the end of the high school season is the appropriate time for final rankings.
