Florida 4A boys basketball semifinals: Calvary Christian Academy survives scare, will play for state championship

Calvary Christian came into the game ranked No. 7 in the SBLive/SI Power 25

LAKELAND, Fla. - Marvel Allen scored 19 points and Taylor Hendricks added 18 to lead Calvary Christian Academy to a 62-60 win over Lake Highland Prep in the Florida boys basketball state semifinals on Thursday.

Calvary Christian came into the game ranked No. 7 in the country in the latest SBLive/Sports Illustrated Sports Power 25 National Rankings.

Allen, an LSU commit, and Hendricks, a Central Florida signee, carried the load offensively for the Eagles. Florida Atlantic signee Brenen Lorient finished with 7 points.

Ohio State signee Brice Sensabaugh was a force for the Highlanders, finishing with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Senior guard Jared Berry added 11 points, while Julian Clarke finished with 8.

“Brice was a special player for us and is going to be missed a lot by our staff,” Lake Highland Prep head coach Ben Fratrik said.

Calvary Christian will look for its second straight state championship and third overall on Saturday when they take on Andrew Jackson at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Andrew Jackson 58, Gibbs 45

Andrew Jackson, the top-ranked team in 4A, had a hard time putting Gibbs away in the first 4A semifinal matchup Thursday.

Trailing by two with 4:29 left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers exploded for a 10-0 run to put the game away. 

The Tigers were led by Michael Swift who finished with 13 points and three assists in the win.

The Gladiators were seeking their first state championship game appearance since 1969. They were led by freshman guard Jacob Daniels who finished with a game-high 21 points.
