ST. PAUL, Minn. — The No. 5-seed Fosston Greyhounds defeated the No. 3-seed Lyle/Pacelli Athletics 3-2 in the Class 1A MSHSL Baseball title game on Friday at CHS Field.

The Boushee brothers, Hudson and Carson, led the Greyhounds on the mound, Hudson Boushee held the Athletics to one run through six innings, and Carson Boushee allowed the Athletics to load the bases and score one run in the seventh, but he recorded two straight outs to give the Greyhounds their first state title.

"It means the world," Carson Boushee said. "That just makes it even more special because I grew up with [Hudson] playing baseball in the backyard and dreaming of this."

The Greyhounds led 3-1 entering the top of the seventh inning. Carson Boushee allowed Jack Klingfus to single to start the inning. Trey Anderson walked, and Landon Meyer singled to left center to load the bases.

Mac Nelson struck out swinging, but Hunter VanDeer drew a walk to drive in a run and cut the lead to 3-2 with one out.

"I had a little trouble right away," Carson Boushee said. "I walked a few guys, but I trust my defense so much."

Carson Boushee struck Jakob Trucke out, and Isaac Nelson grounded out to first base to leave three runners stranded while the Greyhounds celebrated a title.

"It's unbelievable," Carson Bouchee said. "It hasn't sunk it. I'm so proud of my team. Unbelievable."

Fosston scored in the bottom of the second inning, but the Greyhounds missed an opportunity for more runs.

Bracken Levin drew a walk, Aaron Norland hit a single, and Levin scored on a Zach Theis infield dribbler that Lyle/Pacelli third baseman Klingfus failed to coral, so it rolled into the outfield.

Thatcher Palubicki struck out for the second out of the inning. Aiden Wolfe hit a infield single to load the bases for Fosston. Cullen Norland flew out to the right field to leave three runners on base.

Lyle/Pacelli had its opportunity to score in the fourth inning with the bases loaded.  VaDeer hit a single to start the inning, Jakob Truckenmiller struck out and Isaac Nelson drew a walk. Dane Schara popped out, but Logyn Brooks singled to third base to load the bases. Klingfus flied out end the inning, and Lyle/Pacelli left three on base.

"When we hit the ball hard, it just hung up for them," Lyle/Pacelli head coach Brock Meyer said."It just didn't happen today. We fought to the end."

Fosston scored a run the next half-inning. Theis hit a sacrifice fly to drive Bracken Levin to give the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead.

"[Theis and Bracken] were huge today," Hudson Boushee said. "That really gave us that extra cushion and that's really what helped us today."

Lyle/Pacelli cut the lead to one in the top of the sixth inning. VaDeer and Truckenmiller singled to start the inning. With VaDeer at third base, Isaac Nelson hit a sacrifice fly for a run.

The Greyhounds added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, one they needed. After Levin singled and Ryne Duppong stole second, Aaron Norland hit a single for an RBI.

It was the run the Greyhounds needed to be state champions.

Hudson Boushee finished with six innings pitched. He allowed four hits and one earned run with six strikeouts and one walk.

"I can't believe how well he did," Carson Boushee said. "I'm so proud of him. He stepped up so big. he deserves the all-tournament award more than anybody, I feel. I'm so proud of him. He stepped up today."
