Recruiting roundup: USC hosting multiple 5-star prospects; 5-star recruit says he can't be 'bought' by NIL deals

A look at the top recruiting stories of the past few days

As always, there's a lot going on this fall in the world of high school football and college football recruiting.

On Friday, Texas five-star quarterback commit Arch Manning broke two records held by uncles Peyton and Eli Manning, while Tennessee five-star quarterback commit Nico Iamaleava threw long touchdown passes on his first three attempts.

As for this weekend, USC is the big recruiting story nationally.

Lincoln Riley's program will host 7 5-star recruits and more than two dozen elite prospects in what may be the best weekend in the Pac-12 Conference in several years.

Oregon is also hosting a key collection of talent, led by three big-time offensive line targets.

Here's a look at the top recruiting stories of the past few days:

- USC Trojans hosting 7 5-star prospects, more than 2 dozen key targets this weekend

USC is slated to host seven five-star prospects, double-digit bluechip recruits and more than two dozen priority prospects for what should be one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year.

Arch eclipsed Eli Manning's 7,268 career passing yards mark and also bested Peyton Manning's career passing touchdowns record of 93.

"NIL will not be the reason I go to a school to play FOOTBALL," he wrote. "So do not make the assumption again that I can be 'bought.'"

"My relationship with Coach Klemm is great," Brandon Baker said. "He’s a wonderful person and a great coach - definitely can see me playing for a coach like himself. Coach (Dan) Lanning, he has so much energy. Whenever I talk to him it’s great. We click, for sure. Coach Viane (Talamaivao), my guy, we talk daily and (he's) also a great person."

Ricks is nearing 40 scholarship offers, but has already trimmed his list to a top 10 of Alabama, Florida, Jackson State, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC.

Oregon's biggest need in the 2023 class is offensive line help and the Ducks will have a chance to address that need this weekend

- Texas 4-star defensive lineman Johnny Bowens taking Oregon official visit 

The 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive lineman was formerly committed to Texas A&M, but decommitted, in part, because of his interest in Oregon.

- Tennessee 5-star quarterback Nico Iamaleava throws touchdown passes on first 3 attempts

"It kind of shocked me a little bit," he said. "I talked to him a few days ago, man. Things kind of changed out of nowhere, so I'm a little bit shocked. It's all good, though."

On Wednesday on ESPN2, Hicks chose which one he'll be a part of in the future, committing to Texas A&M over Oklahoma, as well as fellow finalists Alabama, Miami, Michigan State and Oregon.

“I’m very excited to sit down with the coaches,” he told On3. “I haven’t seen them since January 29th when I was on my Junior Day visit, so it will be nice to talk to them and continue to build those relationships."
