BIXBY - Just one flip of the switch and top-ranked Bixby was electrifying with its high-scoring offensive machine en route to another one-sided victory.

The latest came against Westmoore, 73-6, Thursday night at Lee Snider Field, as Bixby (8-0, 5-0 in District 6AI-1) extends its state 11-man record win streak to 57 straight games. Bixby also scored 50 or more points for the seventh consecutive game.

The Spartans rolled to 52 points in the first half with seniors Connor Kirby, Austin Havens, and Cale Fugate highlighting most of the show.

Fugate caught a pair of short passes from Havens, the backup quarterback, early in the game, and sprinted down the east sideline each time en route to a touchdown. The first covered 62 yards and came just seconds into the game, and Kirby then ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

That just happened to be the second play coming 25 seconds into the game.

The second score for the pair was the third TD for the team, this time from 71 yards and it was 21-0.

In addition to two passing TDs, Kirby ran for another three. A Westmoore fumble set up his first, which was a 2-yarder that made it 14-0, sandwiched between the big Havens-Fugate scores.

Then, in one play after just a 6-yard Jaguar punt, Kirby had an open hole for a 44-yard jaunt to the end zone to increase Bixby’s advantage to 28-0 with under two minutes left in the opening quarter.

“Those guys had some good nights,” Bixby coach Loren Montgomery said. “Cale, every time he touched the ball, he really cut loose, and I thought Connor threw the ball great tonight.

"I’m also super proud of our defense. We do have some things we got to clean up. But we’re going to keep grinding and hopefully get that fixed up.”

The domination continued as the Spartans added 24 more points in the second period. The defense hardly allowed Westmoore to cross the 50-yard line and each team often started possession on the Jaguars’ side of the field.

“It means we’re playing good defense,” Montgomery said. “And we kept kicking it out of bounds, which would have killed it in field position. Our offense had capable field position most of the night.”

Except for one interception and a fumble each in the first half, the Spartans scored every time they touched the ball.

When Westmoore made a big play, they were negated by penalties. Its only bright moment came when Xavier Simpkins sprinted 86 yards after catching a pass from Dalton Mays for its only points on the last play of the game. The extra point failed.

In the second quarter, Kirby would get his passing TDs by hitting Fugate wide open for 16 yards in the end zone and Sam McCormick for 46 yards. Kirby then added his last score on the ground from 42 yards to make it 49-0 with 3:28 left in the first half.

Levi Hoffman booted a 26-yard field goal before halftime and it was 52-0.

Westmoore had possession first to start the second half. It was forced to punt, which was blocked and retrieved by Jett Turner, who took it 18 yards to the house.

Cody Crull and Garrett Vaughn scored on runs of 2 and 3 yards, respectively, in the third and fourth quarter, to make it 73-0.
